Simon Property Group (SPG), FAILED Upper Management, Abuse

Simon Property Group (SPG), FAILED Upper Management:

This company is Fortune 500 in name only. it acts as a mom-and-pop shop under the guise of Fortune 500. The work environment is toxic, there is no room for improvement. Ceilings everywhere. There are people working in this company for 30 years, they won't change. And the company reacts stupidly to everything.

The GM's are toxic, no one checks on the property. My property GM hires their relatives to do some of the work and accepts favours from contractors but the company does not know this.

Denise, the RVP. Denise on the other hand bullies her GMs. She yells and screams at them. I feel for all the GMs. That woman is nasty, emotional and needs HR to address things but HR, how dare they touch an RVP

This company is terrrible.

Don't accept the position

Director of marketing and business development

Pros

The only pro is that you will have a steady job, but not because they furlough to save a few dollars.

Cons

Don't accept the job and leave the one you are in. I read the reviews and ignored them. Instead of leading the industry, they follow trends for 2 minutes. The first sign of trouble in COVID, they laid off the Development department followed by furloughing everyone from the Marketing team. Anyone making money over 120K was forced into a 10% cut but later on, they were retroactively paid back. Meanwhile, the folks including myself from the Marketing department didn't get anything. We lost our income. BTW this happened in March. Note April of 2020 or May but March.

The GM's are toxic, no one checks on the property. My property GM hires their relatives to do some of the work and accepts favours from contractors but the company does not know this. They send an audit, but GMs do the audit so.... Then HR, not helpful. HR matters are never properly addressed. There are no follow-ups. They launch an investigation but don't actually do anything.

No one cares about you, if you have great ideas, your GMs will take credit and never give you due credit. They are all about looking good to Denise, the RVP. Denise on the other hand bullies her GMs. She yells and screams at them. I feel for all the GMs. That woman is nasty, emotional and needs HR to address things but HR, how dare they touch an RVP. It becomes about we have to work as a team and how Denise is producing numbers. All Denise does is keep people on the tightest leash. There are no commissions for the team. Your prizes are to play BINGO and get a COOZIE or a Wristlet if you make a 100,000 deal. Denise really loves this game.

Let's talk about SAFETY - you were allowed to work from home for a short period (1month). Now you are not allowed. We are NOT vaccinated and the team comes to a MALL environment but like every sensible company, you are not even given the option of working from home. Marketing doe NOT need to be at the mall. I can go on and on but trust me if you are coming from a well-established company or a job, don't do it no matter how bad the situation is over there. This company is terrrible.

Advice to Management

You need to restructure the entire company. There are too many toxic people, ceilings, no sharing of ideas and not a nurturing environment. Your company is a means to a paycheque and needs an overhaul. But I don't see it changing. Guess what you review reader - there are also NO perks to working for Simon. No appreciation, no corporate discounts, no added benefits. None of the new stuff.
