"It starts from the Top"
Corporate Racism -- would explain the Following/Harassment of minorities at SPG malls:
weeding out *perceived* undesirables (blacks, Latinos, casually dressed mall go-ers, etc)
towards a high-end mall look.
(example) Keystone Mall in Indianapolis
Beginnig of the End -- anchor luxury-store Saks 5th Avenue just LEFT in July/2024
The abusive profiling/discrimination by Mall Security, of mall go-ers has BACK FIRED
The Industry Leader in Corporate Bureaucracy
General manager
Pros
- Large Portfolio of great assets - Strong leasing group - A great place to work if you have no interest in being innovative and lack desire to have family/friends - You can easily quit and find a better place to work
Cons
- No diversity in Senior Leadership, leaders disregard diversity and in some cases have allowed discrimination
- HR department is deplorable
- Zero commitment or investment in employee growth/development
- Terrible benefits package and retirement match is non-existent
- Horrible work/life balance
- Pay is below average (unless you are at the top of the food chain) - Computer systems are archaic - Midwest headquarters
- You will never be able to read and learn all the policies and procedures at this place, there is a policy for every single move you make. There is zero opportunity to change/challenge or evolve the policies. What was written in 1970 applies today.
- A lot of terrible assets grouped in with best-in-class. If you are at a profitable asset your budget is robbed to support the bottom. Zero emphasis on supporting the betterment of assets in the portfolio. This was equally frustrating for your leasing rep.
- The company would steal and sell your soul if it could do it for a profit
Advice to Management
Clean house, bring in new leadership across the board. Long-term employees are not always ones you want to keep around. Learn to be diverse, creative, innovative, and put employees on the front lines first.
